An intensive 2 day workshop on the principles
of Text Discovery. This will encompass the various aspects
of dissecting a script for all the information it contains
on the page as to the playwright's intentions as well as the
character itself. We will cover such questions as: What is
a beat, a want, a goal, an intention, and an obstacle? What
are given circumstances, and how do they keep a character
in the room? What do punctuation, capitalization, repitition,
and alliteration have to do with character?
Text Discovery is a highly effective audition tool, and can
be used in every area of performance. The class will look
at text from both classical and contemporary theatre, as well
as audition material from film and TV, even commercial copy. |

We will discuss how a director and casting director work and
what they expect from each actor. We will investigate how
to approach the play, the role and the assignment, how to
use the technique you already have in the audition room. Every
student will prepare a scene from the same play to work on
in class.

Checking and Savings accounts, Money Market Accounts, Certificates

Acting
for the Camera
Instructor:
Bethany Rooney |
This 8-hour, 2 session workshop seeks
to duplicate the conditions an actor faces in a real single-camera
film experience. Its purpose is to help you feel so comfortable
with the requirements of a film set that you are free to be
"in the moment" and focus on the art, rather than
the craft, of being a film actor. You will memorize a scene,
but the only rehearsal will be during class. You will perform
the scene twice with a scene partner, and the second time
you must match your action in using a prop, hit the marks
which were set on the first run-through, plus make an acting
adjustment given to you by the instructor. You will be videotaped
to facilitate assessment of your work. You will have the opportunity
to perform multiple scenes in this class, enabling you to
practice the unique skills of being a film actor. |
